For runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages

The Diefenbooker Classic has proven to be a huge success for the promotion of health in the community, while fundraising for the West Carleton Branches of the Ottawa Public Library. This was our nineteenth year fundraising for the libraries.

Thank you for joining us on Saturday May 2, 2015, for another great Diefenbooker Classic.

The Diefenbooker Classic promotes community fun, as well as serious racing, with strong regional runners.

Events for all ages include 5 and 10 km running races, 5, 18 and 33 km cycle tours, and 5 km walk.

Youth events include a 1 km running race for 12 yrs and under, and "Loonie Loop" short races for those 2 to 6 yrs old.

Again this Year... "chip timing"! The 5km and 10km races are timed by Sports Stats using "chips".

For the 5 km team event, 4 or more athletes register as a "team". The winning teams are determined using the lowest combined times, of the best four runners.

If you want to participate in the walk, but are unsure if you are able to manage the 5 km distance, drivers are available to return you to the start after each kilometre.

As a regular feature of the race, runners and walkers are directed through the blast tunnel of the "Diefenbunker", the former National Defence facility now known as Canada's Cold War Museum. Cyclists travel fully paved routes through rural West Carleton township and some roads are closed to vehicular traffic. The short races are held within the Fairgrounds in Carp. All routes are well marked.

Photographs of all races are on display in the Carp Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.

Once again, our title sponsor is the West Carleton Medical-Dental Centre and West Physio.

Support from both new and returning sponsors is greatly appreciated.
